Mary Brown and Shellie Sytsma
Mary Brown and Shellie Sytsma are a mother/daughter team that have been involved with American Brittanys since Shellie was 8, whenever that was! Oh, about 1990. We lived in San Diego, California and started with Shellie in a local 4h group with our backyard-bred Brittany. Shellie excelled in showmanship and our found our way to a local AKC show where Shellie started competing in Junior Showmanship. We were adopted by the local Brittany group and Shellie got her first job at the early age of 12, working for Amy (Rodrigues) Booth. Agnes and Joe Rodrigues, along with Linda Langford have influenced us greatly and been a great part of our dog family. Our first show Brittany was Stone, Ch. Shiloh's Blazing Stoneman, bred by Pennie Peterson, out of Ch. N-Vee's Touch of Romance. He took us to our first National events in Arkansas, Shellie showed him in Junior showmanship and he won an Award of Merit at a Summer Specialty. River came to us from Robin Tomasi at Copley Brittanys and inspired us to breed. Our first breeding was in August 2014 with River and Pebbles (Ch. Shiloh's Babbling Brook). River tragically passing in the spring of 2015 has also been a huge part of our breeder lives as we have had to press forward through pain and confusion to still progress in a breeding program without him. We were left with two of his lovely daughters and one niece. We also have the joy of continuing on with many of our puppy owners as they begin their own breeding programs, even though they were only looking for a Brittany as a pet when they got their babies from us:)
This is obviously a family endeavor for us. Mary is in charge of all things field. She is a very active member of both the San Diego Brittany Club and the California Brittany Club, helping run their field trials, hunt tests and shows. Shellie is a fairly-active member of the California Brittany Club as she raises and homeschools her young family. Shellie also is a leader in the local 4h group, helping the next generation of dog lovers and always looking for the next future dog fancier. Shellie's children are a huge part of our dogs lives, even inspiring our kennel name, Caliah, pronounce, Cu-LI-uh, the joining of her sons' names, Caleb and Josiah. Enjoy our journey with us. Our most recent litter has been our Calli x Quinn litter, on the ground November 12, 2016.
